ICO consultation on the draft right of access guidance
The UK data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office, is consulting on its guidance on the right of access.
This is the mechanism under the data protection framework, by which someone can ask a company to give them a copy of all the personal data the company is processing about them, as well as some ancillary information.
For companies, many subject access requests are easy to handle — but you do need to know how to spot them, and what to do with them, as you have only one month, in most cases, to respond to them. A little prior planning can go a long way too.
The ICO's consultation closes on 12th February 2020.
